Why We Built TypingForKids
In today's digital classroom, typing is no longer an optional elective—it is the foundational gateway to writing, standardized computer testing, creative storytelling, and computer programming. Yet too many children enter middle school relying on "hunt-and-peck" with two index fingers, causing mental fatigue and limiting their ability to translate thoughts onto the screen.
We observed that existing typing software falls into two extremes: dry, outdated drills that bore children, or commercial platforms overloaded with flashing ads, paywalls, and invasive student tracking. We built TypingForKids to be the alternative: exhilarating, gamified arcade mechanics backed by sound keyboarding pedagogy, delivered with uncompromising student privacy.

By emphasizing the home row bumps (F and J) and color-coded finger zones, our visualizer conditions finger neuromuscular memory so children type without looking down.
