1. Our Core Privacy Philosophy
At TypingForKids, we believe educational tools for children should be safe, transparent, and completely free of commercial surveillance. We do not view students or children as data profiles. Our platform is built from the ground up to provide interactive touch-typing education without demanding any personal information from children, parents, or school districts.
Students can freely access all typing games, speed tests, home row practice lessons, and printable worksheets without entering a name, birth date, email address, school ID, or location.
2. COPPA Compliance (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act)
TypingForKids strictly complies with the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines governing online services directed to children under the age of 13:
- No Personally Identifiable Information (PII): We do not knowingly solicit, collect, store, or transmit any PII from children under 13 years of age.
- No Chat or Public Forums: There are no open chat rooms, direct messaging systems, or public user profiles on this platform. Children cannot communicate with strangers.
- No Geolocation Tracking: We do not request, access, or track device GPS or precise geographic coordinates.
3. FERPA & School District Classroom Safety
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), educational institutions must maintain control over student educational records. Because TypingForKids does not collect, index, or store student names, rosters, grades, or classroom identification:
- School districts and teachers do not need to execute complex Data Privacy Agreements (DPAs) or Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) exhibits merely to bookmark or launch our games in computer labs.
- All student keystrokes, WPM metrics, and error rates are evaluated entirely on the client side inside the student's browser tab and discarded or retained locally when the tab is closed.
4. Browser LocalStorage & Cookies
To provide rewarding gamification feedback (such as displaying your personal best WPM or remembering audio mute settings), TypingForKids utilizes standard browser localStorage:
- This data never leaves the student’s device and is never sent across the internet to any external server or database.
- Clearing browser history or site cookies will instantly reset all locally saved high scores and preferences.
- We do not use advertising tracking cookies or third-party retargeting pixels.
5. Third-Party Hosting & Infrastructure
TypingForKids is hosted on modern high-speed global edge infrastructure. Like all standard web servers, anonymous server logs containing non-identifying technical metadata (such as browser user-agent and IP addresses for DDoS mitigation and server health monitoring) may be processed transiently for technical delivery purposes.
